PS or polystyrene is a thermoplastic polymer that softens when heated and can be processed into semi-finished products such as films, plates and many finished products.

Polystyrene grades can be divided into two main groups:

• GPPS – general purpose polystyrene
• HIPS – high impact resistant polystyrene

GPPS (GPPS, general purpose polystyrene or crystal clear polystyrene) is a fully transparent, delicate, and widely used in food packaging applications and jewelry boxes.

HIPS, high impact polystyrene, is polystyrene with butadiene rubber as an impact modifier, which gives good material impact performance but loses transparency.

Polystyrene is easy to process and has a pleasant gloss. It is the most preferred material for thermoforming. The most widely known polystyrene application is yogurt containers.

Another major thermoforming application of polystyrene is in refrigerator and cooler internal lines, where special high ESCR (environmental stress cracking resistance) grades are designed.
